From north to south
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, I never imagined that I’d move to Houston, Texas to start my professional career. But after graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Business Administration, that’s exactly what I did! My first job out of college was at a national recruiting and staffing enterprise, where I got my feet wet in the talent acquisition space. Deep down, I knew that this industry was one where I’d spend the rest of my career.
Landing with Acara
I worked for a few different local staffing and recruiting companies in the Houston area before I finally found the team at Acara. At the time, the organization didn’t have a strong presence in the Texas market—and they looked to me to help change that. I had always enjoyed working for mid-sized, family-owned businesses, and Acara was a place where I knew I could thrive. From my very first interview, I felt at home. That feeling of comfort was what helped me to realize that I was in the right place at the right time.
Some people say that being a salesperson can get very old, very quickly. But throughout my career, I’ve always been passionate about meeting new people and making new connections. Over the years, my networking experience within the Houston area has helped me forge countless business relationships. I always love learning about different companies and figuring out who they are and what they do. I can definitely say that my active curiosity has served me well throughout my professional career!
A focus on transparency
Throughout my career, I have always prided myself on transparency, accountability, and honesty. As a young sales rep, I learned that building trust with a customer is the most pivotal part of your relationship. By forging genuine relationships, I’m able to more easily identify my customers’ needs and help to solve them. That’s why many of my customers have followed me throughout my career. Not only do put their trust in me, but they have also developed confidence in our team at Acara to get the job done.
The restless pursuit of success
One of the things that I love most about working for Acara is our tendency to always be striving for more. We never grow complacent within our work; rather, we are always looking to innovate and improve. The staffing and recruiting industry has come a long way over the last several dozen years, but so has Acara. I’m proud to be working for a company that started as a small mom-and-pop shop and is now a global business. Continuous improvements like the recent rebranding effort have helped us to reinvent ourselves and better serve our customers in the market. The evolution of Acara has been impressive to watch. I’m honored to have played a small role in our company’s expansion by developing a solid footprint in the state of Texas.
The joys of a new journey
People who know me know how much I love to travel. I use traveling as a way to reward myself for my successes in the office. While I’ve been to most of the continental United States, but a few months ago, I decided to cross a few more states off my list by driving out to the “wild west.” I explored Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons, and a bunch of other landmarks. It’s hard for me to even put into words how beautiful our country is. I always tell people to go out and explore nature—you’ll never know what you’ll find!
Next stop: Europe
While the pandemic may have brought my international travel plans to a screeching halt, I’m so excited to get back on airplanes, walk through airports, and stay in hotels again in the future. I’m hopeful that someday soon, I’ll be able to travel to Europe and explore Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. My mind is itching to explore a foreign new place again! Until then, I’ll continue to commit to another passion of mine—reading—until the world opens back up for normal life. If anyone’s looking for a good new book, I’d highly recommend The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. It’s an incredible story!
