6 Challenges and Solutions in Talent Acquisition

By Acara Solutions Account Executive Jason Zambito

Are you seeking to hire viable job candidates? Then you already know the challenges of the task at hand, especially today. The job market is tighter than ever. Unfilled job positions and lackluster hires can cost thousands of dollars. HR teams are tasked with more responsibilities than ever. And so on.

To help you close candidates in a highly competitive environment, let’s take a look at some common challenges and solutions in talent acquisition.

CHALLENGE #1: With fewer job applicants available, recruiters are struggling to hire top talent, or worse, hire the wrong person for the job.

SOLUTION #1: Enhance and advertise your 5 Cs:

  1. Credibility: Good character and reputation
  2. Compensation: Competitive salary + benefits
  3. Culture: Shared mission and vision + perks
  4. Commitment: Shared plan and strategy
  5. Challenge: Challenging yet achievable goals and outcomes

CHALLENGE #2: Hiring managers are forced to rely on saturated job boards and transaction-based recruiting agencies.

SOLUTION #2: Job candidates are using social media to search for jobs. Enhance your recruitment efforts on these platforms using some of the following hashtags:

CHALLENGE #3: HR folks are overtasked, leading to last-minute recruitment, hiring, and on-boarding decisions.

SOLUTION #3: If you can find the time to interview/onboard, do this:

  • Have honest and upfront conversations
  • Set reasonable expectations
  • Express your culture during onboarding
  • Have a learning plan in place to expedite both employee understanding and production

If you don’t have the time for these critical tasks, consider partnering with a partner organization that can.

CHALLENGE #4: Recruiters are struggling to relate to their audience in the marketplace and/or can’t find the right “organizational fit,” particularly in regard to millennials and Gen Z.

SOLUTION #4: 47% of the global workforce will be millennials by 2020, or approximately 75% of the workforce by 2030. Currently, millennials prefer text messages over phone calls. Same goes for Gen Z. Ask yourself, “What do we know about managing millennials or other generations?”

CHALLENGE #5: Employers who choose to lean on the lighter side of the pay range experience more turnover and ultimately spend more time and resources on the hiring process.

SOLUTION #5: The costs of recruiting, hiring, and onboarding—paired with those of unfilled or unsuccessful hires—often outweigh the cost of a high-quality hire. Weigh your hiring costs against your staffing costs and see how the numbers shake out. It’s better to spend $70K on a high-quality candidate than $100K to recruit, hire, fire, and replace a less effective employee.

CHALLENGE #6: Companies invest more time and effort on the recruiting process and not enough time on employee retention.

Balance your time to focus on creating:

  • Perks, values, and culture
  • Flex hours
  • Enhanced PTO
  • Solid benefits
  • Attractive 401K
  • Stock options
  • Independent or off-site work settings
  • “Work to live” not “Live to work”

the biggest challenge facing talent aquisition is well..acquiring talent. That is partly because it tough to do in a sea of candidates, but moatly because the talent aquisition processes are transactional and are NOT designed to attract talent rather just fill a position, tick a box. Etc.
Thats what HR is often measured on..time to fill, number of sales etc..not whether the candidate is talent or not.
